Happy Bday India

Was supposed to post this on Aug 15th....late by 3 days..so it is a belated wish!

60 years of Independence for one of the oldest civilizations in the world.....So have we acheived much since our independence,,..I would say we have acheived yes...largest producer of rice,making inroads into the IT sector, rapidly developin middle class population, shoppin malls, Big Box stores, largest producer of movies....yeah yeah....But the problems that used to haunt us from Independence - illiteracy, unemployment, poverty,....still continue to persist!! We are still a developing nation and we have a long way to go.....What does each one of us need to do? Help the poor in your li'l own way. If you work in the US, send money home and ask parents to spend a portion of it on deserving charities. If you work in India, try to get personally involved with charities....Recently mom and dad have started contributing to an orphanage in Kerala and I sent money for that.....Each little drop counts....So lets all strive to make India a better place....!

On an other note, today was the Aug 15th Independence celebrtions and I sang there. I sang the anthem and also a song from phalguni pathak's album....I guess I sang decent...(need to ask the people who came there:))

Anyways at teh function, we met this American couple - Sam and Julie who were interested in Indian culture , food etc...and they wanted to know how India got her Independence...There was an #$%^sitting at our table(An Indian) who boldly stated "the british could not handle ruling over many countries, so they decided to make India independent".....Dude !!! Did u even know about the "Indian freedom struggle"? Do you even think before blabbering out such nonsense....Me and thads proceeded to repair the damage done by him, we explained the non violent struggle briefly and explained that Britain did not hand over freedom in a platter...... Such incidents remind me that we need to be extremely careful of the way we project our country to others.......

On that note I conclude.....The dishes in the sink are pleading at me with loving eyes...so lemme attend to them
